Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Jennifer Drummond Ferris knew as a child that art would be an important part of her life. Jennifer's maternal grandmother, mother, and brother are also artists. Primarily self-taught, she began painting with pastels as a child. As an adult she pursued photography, pottery, jewelry/beading, and murals. The lessons in composition from her photography classes continue to influence her current paintings.
In Jennifer’s previous career as a consultant, she pursued as many creative opportunities as possible, including web page design. While living in Boston from 1995 to 1997, Jennifer took advantage of the walkability of the city and frequently visited the many galleries and museums there. This greatly influenced her to begin to painting in oil, paintings depicting Boston's streets and landscapes. In 2006, a move to a larger house enabled Jennifer to set up a permanent studio and by 2007, she began focusing more and more on her painting. Over the past few years, she has studied oil painting with several local instructors, including Kip Rogers, Maureen Engle, and Christopher Sherry.
Jennifer is currently experimenting with a variety of techniques, styles, and subject matter. Although, her work continues to incorporate flowers, the use of the palette knife for lots of texture, and the use of vibrant colors. Jennifer writes, “Painting brightly colored images, images that make you want to smile - that is my passion, and sharing my paintings brings me great joy.” Many of Jennifer’s paintings start off as an abstract background, to which she adds a “touch of realism”.
Jennifer lives and paints in Alpharetta, GA with her two boys, husband, and dog.
